Matthew specialises in just energy transition, climate and sustainability research and advisory.

His expertise in these areas is underpinned by a robust career that began as a journalist and evolved into a sustainability consultancy role. Matthew’s journalism career spanned 10 years, during which he honed his focus on business and finance as a senior journalist and deputy editor at News24 Business.

His work concentrated on South Africa’s political economy, energy reform and the renewable energy sector. This deep dive into energy issues laid the foundation for his subsequent transition into sustainability management.

Building on his MBA (UCT) and BA Honours (UKZN), Matthew moved into sustainability management consulting, where he served as Trialogue’s Head of ESG and Integrated Thinking. In this role, he was instrumental in embedding sustainability best practices within organisations and developing integrated reporting solutions to track and enhance sustainability progress. This blend of journalistic insight and consultancy experience now fuels his work in guiding just energy transition strategies at Krutham.
